Japan is rich with natural resources, and it definitely doesn’t fall short on what nature has to offer. From Mount Fuji being a distinctive sight, to the wonders of the seasonal cherry blossoms and the numerous natural hot springs scattered all around the country, Japan has so many natural wonders to discover, including hiking trails.

Leave the hustle and bustle of the city streets and get a dose of nature. Check out some of the hiking trails in Tokyo:

Mount Takao

Mount Takao stands at 599 meters (1,965 ft) tall and is conveniently located only about an hour from downtown Tokyo. Visitors can choose from eight hiking trails to the summit. The Tama Forest Science Garden at the base of the mountain is an experimental forest and an arboretum.

Mount Koubou

Mount Koubou is located in the southern foothills of Mount Oyama. It’s a relaxing and scenic 2-and-a-half-hour trek that’s especially popular during the cherry blossom season when lanterns illuminate the flowers at dusk. Picnic tables and benches greet hikers close to the summit where they can bask in glorious views facing Mount Fuji and Sagami Bay.

Kinchakuda

The Kinchakuda and Hiwada hiking trail is more like a two to three hour walk along the countryside. Colorful flowers like red spider lilies, wildflowers, and cherry blossoms make it a scenic trek during the seasons when they profusely bloom. There’s a quaint organic café down the trail and even ponies!

Mount Tsukuba

The double peaked Mount Tsukuba is a popular Tokyo hiking trail. Its an easy hike that offers spectacular views of the Kanto Plain. There’s a matchmaking shrine along the route as signified by the forever linking twin peaks of Tsukuba. The mountain is a mere 887 meters high making it an easy trail but the little obstacles along the way can still make it a challenging trek. The way down can be quite steep. The Ropeway access makes it convenient for hikers to get down. There are several routes to choose from and the abandoned theme park and hot spring make for an even more exciting hike!
